MEET MARG

Leadership Delivering Results for Our Community

My Name is Margaret Benton, and I’ve lived in the Los Banos area for over 20 years. I have two children, Lewis and Kara, who both graduated from Los Banos High School, and both of whom attended colleges. I’ve always been deeply committed to my children’s education, volunteering and working at their schools doing yard duty, and assisting teachers in the classroom.

My life has been full of many wonderful experiences. I’ve lived in several different states and another country.  For the past 15 years, I’ve worked as a Realtor for Prudential and now Century 21 M&M.  I’ve been a member of The Los Banos Rotary Club since 2008, and have had the privilege of holding the offices of Treasurer, 2 years as President, and was previously the Assistant District Governor for area 5. These life experiences have allowed me to appreciate and be open to other people’s viewpoints, as well easily work with people from varying backgrounds.

Over the past four years, I have put my knowledge and experience to use serving my community as a member of the Los Banos Unified School District Board of Education, representing Area 6. I weigh both sides of an issue before I make decisions, and do my utmost to represent my area with respect, integrity and decorum.  In my time on the board, I have served as Secretary and Vice President.  I also chaired the successful Measure X campaign, organizing volunteers and making calls to community members.  I make it a priority to support student and staff efforts by attending as many school events as possible, from judging poetry contests, reading to the children, presenting awards, or just being present to cheer them on in their accomplishments.  I also worked to bring the One Life Fully Lived program to our high schools to help Juniors learn how to set and achieve goals for their futures.

I believe in providing positive leadership.  I have been honored to see the amazing work our teachers and staff do everyday to give our students the skills to be ready for life after school. Whether they are attending college, trade schools, or, entering the job market, we all want them to shine.

I hope you’ll support me in my running for Los Banos Board of Education, Area 6.
